Obsessive Compulsive Anonymous

About OCA
Obsessive Compulsive Anonymous (OCA) Is a fellowship of people who share their Experience, Strength, and Hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from OCD.

The only requirement for membership is a desire to recover from OCD.
What is OCD?
OCD is characterized by recurrent, unwanted and unpleasant thoughts (obsessions), and or repetitive, ritualistic behaviors, which the person feels driven to perform (compulsions). People with OCD know their obsessions and compulsions are irrational or excessive, yet they find they have little or no control over them

Some Typical Obsessions

  • Dirt, Germs and Contamination

  • Fear of acting on violent or aggressive impulses

  • Feeling overly responsible for the safety of others

  • Abhorrent religious (blasphemous) and sexual thoughts

What to expect at your first meeting
Meetings are typically 60-90 minutes. You are welcome to just listen or, if you feel comfortable, share. Each meeting follows a specific format.

Some provide literature for purchase on-site, while others direct you to purchase online. Zoom meetings frequently share digital reading materials on screen.
Each meeting is kindly guided by a member volunteer. They may periodically request that other willing members read aloud.

  • Introduction, Foreword, Itinerary, and 12 Steps

  • Reading of selected, approved material for topic discussion

  • Discussion and sharing

  • Closing

  • Fellowship and/or Q&A for newcomers after meeting

Just for Today
We can change our outlook when we take life one day at a time rather than dwelling in the past or worrying about the future. Daily affirmations are tools that remind us to stay in the present, adjust our focus, and let go of the intrusive thoughts that keep us stuck in the obsession-compulsion loop . . .
